About · Komatsu D61PXOverview
The Komatsu D61PX is a mid-size crawler bulldozer in the 15–20-tonne class, produced continuously since 2008. The PX designation indicates the low-ground-pressure (LGP) wide-track configuration, reducing bearing pressure to roughly 0.37 kg/cm². It is powered by a Komatsu SAA6D107E-1 Tier 3 engine producing 168 hp. The hydrostatic drivetrain allows precise speed control without gear changes. The D61PX-23 series added enhanced cab comfort, auto-deceleration, and a rear-view monitoring system.
Typical applicationsWhere this machine is used
Dutch and Belgian contractors use the D61PX for polder drainage, land reclamation, and pipeline route preparation on clay and peat soils. LGP tracks prevent soil compaction on weak subgrades. Additional uses include road sub-base grading, levelling agricultural land before tile drainage installation, and light quarry work where a smaller machine reduces mobilisation costs.
Used-market inspectionWhat to check before buying
Check the track frames for cracks and uneven roller wear. LGP pads add lateral stress on older machines. Inspect blade push-arms and tilt-cylinder seals. These leak hydraulic fluid without obvious external signs. Request the ECM download. Service intervals should be 500 hours, and oil-pressure and coolant-temperature histories should be clean. Machines above 12,000 hours usually need an undercarriage rebuild at €8,000–€14,000. Factor that into the offer.
Current marketPrice position
The D61PX competes with the Caterpillar D6N in the 15–20-tonne dozer segment. The hydrostatic drive suits precision finish-grading; Cat's power-shift suits heavy push work. Demand in the NL/BE market has been stable, supported by ongoing infrastructure and residential development. Prices for 2015–2020 machines have held firm with modest softening in the wider used-equipment market.
