About · Hitachi ZX210Overview
The Hitachi ZX210 is a 20-tonne class hydraulic excavator, produced continuously since 2001 through multiple Zaxis generation updates. The current ZX210-7 is powered by a Hino J05E-TV engine producing 159 hp and operates a 0.9 m³ standard bucket with a maximum digging depth of 6.55 metres. Hitachi's Hydraulic Negative Control system improved fuel efficiency compared to conventional constant-flow systems. The ZX-7 series introduced a revised cab, HIOS IV hydraulic circuit, and standard ConSite fleet management telematics.
Typical applicationsWhere this machine is used
Dutch utility contractors use the ZX210 for high-cycle bucket and clamshell work. Belgian contractors use it for foundation excavation, demolition, and material handling. German road contractors use it for trench excavation and pipe installation in urban and rural environments. Hitachi's presence in the Dutch and Belgian markets through Zeppelin dealer support makes parts and service accessible.
Used-market inspectionWhat to check before buying
The hydraulic pump is generally durable, but check the swing motor for internal bypassing on high-hour machines by measuring swing speed under load. Inspect boom foot pin bushing bores — original Hitachi bronze bushings have good wear resistance, but aftermarket replacements vary in quality. Request ConSite data history to check oil temperature exceedance events. Inspect undercarriage rollers and idlers carefully on machines above 8,000 hours.
Current marketPrice position
The ZX210 competes with the Komatsu PC210, Caterpillar 320, and Volvo EC220. Hitachi residual values are generally slightly lower than Cat and Komatsu in European markets. The NL/BE market has a healthy population of ZX210 machines with documented Zeppelin dealer service histories. Prices have been stable, with low-hour 2016–2022 machines in demand from utility contractors.
